One of the later prototypes of the Nitinol activated valve.
In this project, SH Scientific Systems was part of a team of
researchers and technicians developing a novel method of controlled
opening and closing of a valve using Nitinol, a "shape memory"
alloy. The project resulted in the granting of two US patents
(6,247,678 and 6,464,200).
Involvement of SH Scientific Systems (SHSS)
SHSS carried out the basic research for the project, quantifying the
performance of Nitinol for the planned application, and collecting the basic
data necessary to develop control algorithms.
SHSS carried out the calculations and theoretical design for several of
the mechanical configurations used in prototypes.
SHSS developed the software and user interface for controlling the valve
aperture.
SHSS developed and tested a high-level user interface for valve control
that was used in demonstrations of the new technology by the client.
